The New York Times praised lyric baritone David Macaluso's performance as Robin in Ruddigore as being "vividly sung and enacted."  Since graduating from Manhattan School of Music, he has performed Off-Broadway and around the world in roles ranging from Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus to Dr. Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror.  David performed in early 2020 as Major General Stanley in the Pirates of Penzance and as Ko-Ko in NYGASP's newly reimagined production of The Mikado - although it was cut short by the pandemic.

He simultaneously performed the roles of Sir Joe & Buttercup in Pinafore! (a seven-person production based on W.S. Gilbert's children's book The Story of the H.M.S. Pinafore) at the Vortex Theater.  This production was honored with a Drama Desk Award nomination. Variety declared, "It's Macaluso who makes this saucy ship a beauty."

In recent seasons, David has performed in Putting it Together with St. Petersburg Opera as well as several new works including a live broadcast of BOUNCE: A Basketball Opera with Grethe Holby on WQXR, and The Emperor and The Queen's Parisian Weekend with HERE Arts in NYC. Other projects include workshops of  WARSAW  with  Jamibeth Margolis, The Pirates of Finance at NYMF, DORA! The Musical, and selections from The Rat King with Opera on Tap. Recently he also worked on a staged reading of Miracolo - A New Musical.

David co-created, produced and performed in The House of Murgatroyd, based on G&S' Ruddygore, which premiered to great success at the 2014 International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, England. Seen and Heard International praised David's "velvety rich baritone" and proclaimed that "The performance was slick, the interpretation fresh, and the amusing were visually clever," and that it was "Theatre art at its best."

In addition, David and his team founded the SCIP (Sing Choruses In Public) Choir to spread their love of G&S and raise funding for Murgatroyd. The inaugural concert was a great success!

David has also directed and choreographed and produced many productions including The Pirates of Penzance with Opera NJ (Jamibeth Margolis, Dir.) and Sullivan's Cox and Box (both on stage and film!) for NYGASP as well as Die Fledermaus and Le Nozze di Figaro at The Copland School of Music, Queens College. He has edited/directed student versions of The Gondoliers, Patience, HMS Pinafore and Ruddigore for NYGASP and Lake George/Saratoga Opera.
